Influential American Women

Introduction

March has been designated Women's History Month by the United States Congress.  In order to continue our study of the minority viewpoint of history you will complete two assignments related to women in American History.

Task

From an approved list or with approval of your history teacher you must choose a woman and complete a short research project ending in an oral presentation to your history class, and a 2-4 page research paper for your English Class.  You will cover the woman's life and her influence on American history.

Process

I.  You must have a visual to accompany your oral report.  (Photos, collage, video clip, music, timeline, outline etc.)  You can run off items to pass out to the class or have a large enough visual to see from the back of the classroom.

II.  Written work (must be typed) to be turned in the day of your oral report:

    a) The value of including the history of women and other minorities in an American history class.  This should be no more than one page in length.

    b) a bibliography that contains at least four sources.  Only one regular encyclopedia is acceptable.  You may use books, magazines, newspapers, specialized encyclopedias, journals, etc.  Do not use the Internet for all sources!  Use the MLA format.

Conclusion

Women's contributions and accomplishments have helped develop the arts, music, medicine, sciences and laws of our nation.  Women have often not been given credit where credit is due.  This research into the women who have made a difference in our great country will show how a minority has made major advances and changes.
