Senior English

Completed and passed Junior English.

Grade Level 12
Senior English, a mandatory class for graduation, concentrates on
British Literature and culminates with The Senior Project. The class emphasizes
critical thinking, writing, and reading. Students will read a variety of novels,
plays, short stories, poems, essays, and articles. Students will be in involved
in both large and small group instruction and use cooperative learning to
enhance their knowledge of reading and writing. Students will integrate
technology in their research and demonstrate this technology in their
presentations.

III.
Instructional Plan: During the course of the year the students
will write paragraphs and essays to reflect the writing process: prewriting,
drafting, responding, revising, editing, conventions, and evaluating and
postwriting. The student will exhibit the following characteristics of effective
writing: use of concise and precise language, lucid prose, and varying sentence
structure. Students will write the college essay for college applications and
will prepare a resume. Students will exhibit grade level comprehension of
literature studies, which shall include required literature and poetry. Students
will write paragraphs and essays identifying, summarizing, and analyzing the
values embodied in the literature studied. Students will complete all phases of
The Senior Project: research paper, physical project, portfolio, and
presentation to the community members. Students will exhibit effective speaking
skills in oral presentation based on individual research. Students will use and
integrate technology in their presentations. Students will participate in small
and large cooperative learning groups.
IV.
Assessment:
Assessments are based on the content standards matrix will be used to evaluate
student’s work. Additional evaluation will be based on written paragraphs and
essays, book reports, worksheets. Literature packets, reading checks, writing
assignments, research vocabulary checks, grammar workshop tests, oral
presentation and notebooks.
