MUSIC
CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
DESCRIPTION Students will explore music and music-making through study, rehearsal and performance of a diverse repertoire of musical styles. Students will be provided access to enrichment activities through several school and community sources.
BEGINNING GUITAR
DESCRIPTION This course is offered for students with little or no prior experience in guitar or music reading. The course will build fundamental skills in guitar performance, and address basic musicianship skills such as music reading and aural skill development. (Offered pending number of student request)
CONCERT BAND/MARCHING BAND
DESCRIPTION Students will explore music and music-making through study, rehearsal and performance of a diverse repertoire of musical styles. The band will provide entertainment and spirit at concerts, parades, football games, and school rallies. Students will be provided access to enrichment activities through several school land community sources.
JAZZ PERFORMANCE
DESCRIPTION Students will explore jazz music and music-making through study, rehearsal and performance of jazz literature. Students will be provided access to enrichment activities through several school and community sources.
CHORUS
DESCRIPTION Students will explore choral music and singing through study, rehearsal and performance of a diverse repertoire of musical styles. Students will be provided access to enrichment activities through several school and community sources. (Offered pending number of student request)
THEATER
DRAMA
DESCRIPTION Drama is a participation course. Students are required to perform before the class audience in a variety of roles: monologues, skits, improvisations, pantomimes, duets and scenes. The emphasis will be on changing the student from a passive accepting viewer into an active critical audience and actor. Written work is expected of the student on a regular basis. May be taken twice for credit.
PLAY PRODUCTION
DESCRIPTION Play Production is open to students interested in producing plays for public performance. Students will earn credit by acting or by working in such areas as stage craft, lighting, make-up, theater management and directing.
This course is taught after school.
ART
INTRODUCTION TO ART
DESCRIPTION This course is designed for people who have been afraid of arts and crafts and for those who feel comfortable with
making art. Basic skills are taught in addition to more advanced techniques. Emphasis is placed on drawing, color mixing, painting, stenciling and general crafts design concepts. The student will learn that making arts and crafts can and should be fun as well as rewarding. This is a UC/CSU Approved Visual Arts course.
ADVANCED ART/DESIGN
DESCRIPTION Students will have the opportunity to further their skills with drawing, painting and design work. Advanced students will learn techniques of illustration using pencil, watercolor, tempera and airbrush. Art theory and its application to everyday experiences and the workplace is discussed. Class will include producing a portfolio of work for presentation to colleges or potential employers.
ART WORKSHOP
DESCRIPTION The workshop student is expected to have personal goals and objectives within the art field. The student will work individually with the instructor to attain these goals.
