ADDITIONAL COURSE OFFERINGS
PREPARATION FOR THE S.A.T. AND P.S.A.T.
DESCRIPTION This class will help prepare the student for the S.A.T. and/or P.S.A.T. standardized tests. Students will spend two weeks on math review and two weeks on English review.
LEADERSHIP
DESCRIPTION This course will provide students with an opportunity to develop leadership skills and to contribute to a more nteresting, exciting and beneficial school environment. Class and student body officers and spirit leaders are encouraged to enroll but the course is open to any student who would like to make a difference at PGHS. Class will be project based.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination)
DESCRIPTION AVID is designed to prepare students, in an academic context, for entrance into four year colleges/universities. The emphasis will be on analytical writing, preparation for college entrance and placement exams, college study skills and test taking, note taking and research. Students will receive one hour of instruction per week in college entry level skills, three hours per week in tutor led study groups, and one hour per week in motivational activities and academic survival skills.
YEARBOOK
DESCRIPTION Students enrolled in this course are responsible for producing the school yearbook. Elements of production include layout, graphics, photography, copy writing, advertising, and sales. Hours outside of class may be required.
JOURNALISM
DESCRIPTION Students enrolled in this course are responsible for producing the school newspaper. They will learn entry level skills involving publication fundamentals such as proofing, cropping, editing, page design, layouts, and meeting deadlines.
