Pacific Grove High School Associated Student Body Election
Guidelines
- Advertising & Campaigning
- ASB poster paper, markers, tape, and staple gun will be available for 5
small posters and one large one for each candidate. Each candidate will
receive 20 free flyers if they are provided to the activities director
before elections begin. All other costs for buttons, stickers, etc. must be
paid for by individual candidates. Markers are not to leave the ASB room at
any time.
- No negative campaigning will be allowed. This includes any verbal or
written communication. Keep slogans positive and clean. Candidates need to
monitor their signs and supporters. Do not remove signs of opposition or you
will be removed from candidacy. No campaigning on elections days (Tuesday,
Wednesday, & Thursday of election week).
- Students must put up signs after 6:30 a.m. and no later than 6:30 p.m.
Signs are to only be placed on designated areas in main hall, pillars, the
fence at Pride Place, the student store, and the multi-purpose room. All
signs (posters or flyers) must have a stamp from the activities director or
they could be taken down by the administration or custodial staff.
- All signs must be taken down by 3 p.m. on Friday of elections week or
candidates will be fined $15.00.
- Candidates must attend Elections Assembly/Open Forum (Gym or Pride
Place) and deliver a speech of at least one minute. Be ready to answer
possible questions from the audience. Candidates have the option of turning
in a video package of 30 seconds to the media class to be aired before
election days.
- Even if you are running unopposed, you must put up signs and attend the
assembly/forum to inform others of your candidacy.
- Candidates may have a campaign manager.
- ASB elections week is (N/A)
- Class of 2009 officer elections week is September 6, 7, and 8.
- Helpful Hints
- Pass out flyers, buttons, stickers, candy with your slogan
- Approach people on campus that you do not know to inform them of your
candidacy.
- Ask teachers if you make a quick pitch. Make it quick!
- Be creative! Have fun!
- Don’t be discouraged if you do not get elected. There are appointed
positions such as Mascot, Breaker Man/Woman, Athletic Commissioner,
Renaissance Commissioner, Fine Arts Commissioner, Noontime Commissioner,
Site Council/SIP representative, Web Master, and Alumni representative.
